Cultivating

Casting about the blogs I've come across some interesting words which link to the gardening of projects.
In a recent post (http://stevedenning.typepad.com/steve_denning/2004/10/chapter_five_st.html), here's talk of 'cultivating' and 'creating the right conditions' for successful teams.

Sounds interesting in explaining how not to manage, but to garden, and how to recognise the relative independence of the plants in your garden.

Some plants need similar conditions and you can save yourself some time by grouping them together. But sometimes the contrast and variety of putting them about the place is worth the effort of creating the right conditions away from home. Put them in a pot and bring them inside when it gets too hot or too cold.

If you inherit a mature garden project, you can make some big changes. Take out big brother (see next post), and the picture is altogether different - especially for little brother.
